Newsletter Autumn 2014

Welcome to our autumn newsletter. We are all hoping for an Indian summer so we can enjoy our lovely grounds including the lower ground patio which has been newly designed and planted by Mr and Mrs Andrew Seall, relatives of one of our residents. This area is used daily by clients from the Age UK Day Centre here at Hazeldene House and is now a joy to behold. A big thank you to Mr and Mrs Seall for all their hard work!

Be a Buddy

We are delighted to be part of a pilot project bringing together our local community and our residents. We are looking for volunteers to become Buddies, sharing their interest and life stories with our residents. Come and learn all about it at the open morning, held jointly at Cornford House on Friday 19 September. We particularly welcome friends and families of our residents.

Meet Frankie!

Frankie is soon to be Hazeldene’s very own ‘Pat Dog’. She lives at home with me and is just three months old but growing quickly. She already has short visits to Hazeldene in preparation for her future of socialising with our residents. She is a bit of a scamp at present but loved by all!

New Sensory Bathroom

The sensory lighting has now been completed in our allocated bathroom and we are just in the process of re-decorating and adding finishing touches to the décor to give a warm welcoming look. I am hoping by the end of September, the sensory bathroom will be in full use.

Graham Care Awards – Nominations Please

We are now seeking nominations from families and friends of residents who want to recognise staff who are excelling in their work and making a real difference. Please ask me for a nomination form if you are at the home or or you can email me or download it here. We are also sending nominations forms out in the post or you can fill in the online form here. Nominations close 30 September.

Dementia Support Group

Since our last Dementia Support Group Meeting” in July some of our relatives have offered to meet up and put together a “Relative Handbook” to support new relatives when their family member moves in to Hazeldene. We will discuss this at our next meeting on 7th October. I am very pleased to say many of our new relatives are now being supported by those relatives who have been with us for some time, there a lot of ‘buddying’ going on here!
